Sharing is Caring

This last week was full of fun!  Got my new chemicals and started using those to functionalize my hBN.  Got to spend time with Melly at the Farmer’s Market!!! And…lots of vacuum filtration! This may not sound like fun, but there is something satisfying about separating out components!  The challenge this week was to time my filtration process just right.  There is one functioning filtration set-up in my lab and I am sharing it with a group of graduate students (actually they are the ones sharing with me 🙂 ).  I had to step out of my comfort zone and communicate with others effectively to time use of the filtration device.

So excited to see how everything is coming together and may have so awesome updates this week about my experiment! Stay tuned everyone!

  1. Awesome! Sounds like you are having fun in your lab learning new things. I am aiming for my data this week after a few failed attempts.
The farmers market was nice too 🙂

    1. The farmer’s market looks so cool and I keep wanting to go but its like man its a 100 degrees and I am already at my car…. maybe ill go next week

  2. Did you find that sharing the equipment slowed down you research or made it harder to complete? I currently am sharing the only machine I can use with another group and the struggle is real. Sharing is caring right? 😀

  3. How are you planning out your usage time while sharing your filtration device with another group? I am currently sharing the only device of its kind in our lab and we are working well together with sharing and all. I still see the slow down in experiment time as a result.

  4. One of the strangest things about doing this internship is working with grad students in a way where I am lower on the totem pole – or at least at the same point on the totem pole. Learning to advocate for oneself and finding the right way to talk to the others you’re working with is something different for me. As a teacher, I’m the boss… It’s been a great learning experience for me.
