Like everyone, I was busy preparing the poster and myself for its presentation. Posters looked great. The Symposium was fast-paced! I didn’t have time to see the others as we all left quickly to enjoy what time is left of the summer. So… see everyone in September after school is back in session.
Also… Jimmy … Macromolecules are a a broad category of molecules that are often referred to as biomolecules in the Biology TEKS. The electrospray mass spec can provide the atomic mass for any macromolecule/biomolecule that can be linearized and contains ions. From my brief training, peptides can be injected directly into the instrument (see original post’s picture). However, other molecules such as carbohydrates and nucleic acids are often run thru tubing for a HPLC connected nearby the equipment. From my reading on the internet, the fatty acids in lipids can also be linearized and charged so they too can be analyzed.
I can’t believe that this the end of a great program…I had a blast! I people and experiences made available in this program are the best! I have bonded with my lab team so much that I am headed to Dumpling Party with them after this. I also loved making the video and the poster…they helped me to see the overall picture and see how everything connects and wraps together. Can’t wait to share and explain to everyone else at the symposium!
Tomorrow is the last day of our summer part of our RET experience. I would like to thank all the people involved in this phenomenal experience. I’m feeling overloaded with ideas for projects to do, and I can’t wait to see your scientific posters tomorrow.
Sleep well, you deserve it.

Last day with lab assignment. Walking to my lab today, it seems like yesterday that I started. I have had overall a wonderful experience. Not everyday do you get a chance to see the cutting edge research that will help shape the future. I have enjoyed working with my staff, mentor, PI, and all of you. Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. Cheers, Robert
My my my, boy does time truly fly. I am excited to have arrived in the closing stages within our 6th week in the RET program. It is certainly a relief and joy to finally observe the fruits of my labor. Yay! This week focus involved preparing/ modifying my poster with my mentor, PI, and poster feedback judges. I do wish everyone an effective and efficient poster presentation during this Friday’s Symposium. 🙂
Quote of the day:
Its the final week of the RET experience within the lab setting. Our research has wrapped up and we are computing the data with the remaining time. My mentor intends to continue his research topic after I have left but not before a short hiatus. It feels like we just started a week ago and here we are all getting ready to board plans and head back to Houston for the Symposium.
